To accomplish their engineering feat, Tao’s group, modified just one of DNA’s iconic double helix chemical letters, abbreviated as A, C, T or G, with another chemical group, called anthraquinone (Aq). New technology innovations in business Anthraquinone is a three-ringed carbon structure that can be inserted in between DNA base pairs but contains what chemists call a redox group (short for reduction, or gaining electrons or oxidation, losing electrons).

These chemical groups are also the foundation for how our bodies’ convert chemical energy through switches that send all of the electrical pulses in our brains, our hearts and communicate signals within every cell that may be implicated in the most prevalent diseases.

The modified Aq-DNA helix could now help it perform the switch, slipping comfortably in between the rungs that make up the ladder of the DNA helix, and bestowing it with a new found ability to reversibly gain or lose electrons.

Through their studies, when they sandwiched the DNA between a pair of electrodes, they careful controlled their electrical field and measured the ability of the modified DNA to conduct electricity. New innovations log in This was performed using a staple of nano-electronics, a scanning tunneling microscope, which acts like the tip of an electrode to complete a connection, being repeatedly pulled in and out of contact with the DNA molecules in the solution like a finger touching a water droplet.

“We found the electron transport mechanism in the present anthraquinone-DNA system favors electron “hopping” via anthraquinone and stacked DNA bases,” said Tao. New technologies trends innovations and research In addition, they found they could reversibly control the conductance states to make the DNA switch on (high-conductance) or switch-off (low conductance). New innovations ttuhsc When anthraquinone has gained the most electrons (its most-reduced state), it is far more conductive, and the team finely mapped out a 3-D picture to account for how anthraquinone controlled the electrical state of the DNA.

“We are particularly excited that the engineered DNA provides a nice tool to examine redox reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics the single molecule level,” said Tao.

The Fraunhofer IWS Dresden and Technische Universitat Dresden inaugurated their jointly operated Center for Additive Manufacturing Dresden (AMCD) with a festive ceremony on February 7, 2017. New innovations in technology 2016 Scientists from various disciplines perform research on materials, additive manufacturing processes and innovative technologies, which build up components in a layer by layer process. New innovations in computer technology 2014 This technology opens up new horizons for component design and combinations of functions. New innovations in software technology For example during fabrication, electrical conductors and sensors are already able to be additively manufactured into components. List of new innovations They provide information about stress conditions of a product during operation.

This way the researchers at the MPIE have discovered a new mechanism during the phase transformation. New innovations login The team of Jian Zhang has observed a new structure, which forms when the beta phase is transformed into the alpha phase: the omega phase. New and innovative ideas for business If the beta phase is cooled down rapidly from a high temperature, some of the atoms change position to adopt the energetically more favourable arrangement of the alpha phase. New inventions and innovations The movements of these atoms lead to mechanical stress along the phase boundary, almost as if the different phases were tugging on each other. New innovations in computer technology 2015 When this stress exceeds a critical value, a new arrangement is adopted, the so-called omega phase.

“This newly discovered structure only arises when sheer stress is generated at the phase boundary, and it facilitates the transformation of the alpha into the beta phase. New innovations in educational technology It can only exist between two other phases because it is stabilised by them,” reports Raabe. New innovations in healthcare technology When the stress drops below the critical value because of the new layer, a new alpha phase layer is formed bordering on an omega phase. New innovations residency This results in a microstructure consisting of lots of layers, some of them on an atomic scale, each having a different structure. New innovations in mobile technology This transition also occurs when static forces are applied and is completely reversible. New innovations in banking technology The scientists are now hoping that the newly discovered structure will help them to better understand the properties of this material and later to develop new, improved varieties of titanium alloys.

Jian Zhang and his colleagues present their findings in the journal Nature Communications. New innovations residency login The Xi’an Jiaotong University in China and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA were also involved in the research.
